The technology is from the research of Munisamy Anandan, President-Elect of Organic Lighting Technologies, LLC in Austin, TX. Dr. Anandan has over 30 years of industrial experience in key technology roles. He worked extensively on OLED full color displays with eMagin Corp.; plasma displays with Bell Communications Research; compact fluorescent lighting with Matshushita Electronics; fluorescent-based LCD backlighting with Thomas Electronics; and LCDs with Bharat Electronics. Dr. Anandan, currently the Treasurer for the Society of Information Displays (SID), has 15 patents, and numerous awards including the R&D 100 Award in 1992.
Description:
The technology economically produces indoor and outdoor plasma displays that are greater than 100 inches in diagonal. The enabling manufacturing method utilizes a number of plasma pixels fabricated as single hermetically-sealed "tiles." These tiles can then be assembled to create a large area display.
Advantages:
The pixels in this technology are in the form of a planar tile. Without any sacrifice in performance, the integrated plasma tile process and integration cost can be as low as one-third the usual cost. The majority of very large area displays currently utilize high brightness LEDs, with each large-area pixel composed of 3 to 4 expensive and non-planar bulb shaped devices. Due to the very large substrate sizes and the expensive machinery needed for handling, current plasma technology is limited to about 100 inches in diagonal.
Applications:

Large area displays are increasingly used in both indoor and outdoor applications for dynamic visual communication systems worldwide. These can be video or computer programmable systems used as displays, scoreboards and billboards with a variety of resolutions.

Potential market opportunities include OEM plasma screen manufacturers and large display system suppliers.
