The patented technology is a dual-mode transmitter capable of interruption of commercial radio broadcasting. Reaches listeners with a verbal message that interrupts regular programming over the entire AM/FM radio band. Listeners hear a continuous message and/or sequencing of a predetermined message over their operating radio alerting them of an emergency situation.
The signaling device can be activated manually or automatically. It is programmed to shut off in the event of an Emergency Alert Service broadcast in times of national disaster or emergency.
The broadcast emergency message interrupts AM or FM radio broadcasting being listened to, replacing it with a specific continuous verbal emergency warning message, e.g., "Move over. Slow down. Emergency ahead on road," "Stay inside. Emergency on premises," or "Warning, train is approaching the crossing. Stop your vehicle."
Especially important with increasing advent of ear-piece radio devices, and of sound-proofing and tinted windows in many vehicles and buildings that creates less awareness of sirens, signals, bells and other warning devices attempting to alert the public to an emergency situation.
The device has a low cost-per-unit basis, readily installed with other equipment, drawing very low power.
Highways -
- Supplement to Public Service Vehicle Signal Activation Systems on emergency or service vehicles:
- Pursuit vehicles, first responders, ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, etc.
- Support of the nationwide AAA program to enforce "Move Over" laws;
- School buses where device can be automatically activated when bus is stopped and warning lights engaged, alerting vehicles in area that children are being loaded/unloaded.
- Local security organizations emergency announcements across radio bands to supplement systems using:
- Outdoor/indoor speakers
- Stobe lights
- PDA or email messages
- Two different formats are available for trains: Stand Alone and Self-Activating when a signal is detected from approaching train, or from a transmitter on the oncoming train itself;
- Redundant safety device addition to active grade railroad crossings in highly populated areas to compliment gates, bells and lights already in place;
- Upgrade remote area passive grade railroad crossings in conjunction with stationary installation:
- solar and/or battery powered,
- low power LED warning light strips
- RFID or 5.9 GHz radio signal transmitter located on train.
