Vehicle Rollover Warning System
Rollover crashes accounted for 31 percent of passenger vehicle deaths in 2004. In high center-of-gravity vehicles, like SUVs, rollovers accounted for more than 50 percent of deaths.
This patented technology is a micro-sensor system that alerts drivers when their vehicle is at increased risk of rollover. The system, called the digital inclinometer, senses and indicates the inclination of an automobile through a device incorporated into the rear-view mirror. The device emits an audible tone when the vehicle is driven in a manner that exceeds prescribed manufacturers' parameters. The tone gets louder and faster as the danger of rollover increases. It is designed to condition the driver to understand the safe limits of their vehicle.
Advantages of this technology include: 1) it does not require any vehicle infrastructure; 2) it is a totally self-contained device and 3) it initiates a warning sooner than suspension-based stability control systems.
